Researcher at the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies, a lecturer at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, and a former international United Nations staff member. From 2000 to 2014, she held several media positions at the UN Department of Information Affairs in New York, the UN Development Programme in Sudan, and the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq. Elbasri served as the Spokeswoman for the United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur and later as the Regional Communication and Media Advisor at the UN Population Fund for the Arab States in Cairo. She was also a researcher at Le Centre de Recherche sur l'Imaginaire at L'Université de Savoie, Chambéry (1993-1998), in France, where she earned her PhD in French Modern Literature. Author of several peer-reviewed research papers and a book titled, L'Imaginaire Carcéral de Jean Genet (L'Harmattan, 1999).
