Investing in Sports to Promote Sustainable Development Goals: The Case of the Qatari Humanitarian and Development Sector Pos

This study examines Qatar's utilization of the 2022 World Cup as a catalyst for achieving the long-term development goals outlined in Qatar National Vision 2030 and the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. It specifically investigates how Qatari humanitarian and development organizations leverage sports to further these objectives, evaluating the current effectiveness and potential of these efforts. Employing a qualitative approach based on literature review, specialized reports, and stakeholder insights, the study reveals diverse strategies among Qatari organizations. Findings indicate varying levels of community involvement and an emphasis on individual development as a pathway to broader social change. Challenges related to funding, evaluation, and sustainability are discussed alongside recommendations to optimize future approaches and outcomes.
